The challenge of learning a new language

English is a very useful language, both for everyday life and for academic environments, that is why from my point of view learning English is an essential part of my academic education.

English has always been a challenge for me, since school I never had a good command of English, even now I find it hard to speak, I find it difficult to find the right words to say in a conversation, which makes it very difficult for me to have a fluent conversation. Another aspect that I find very difficult in English is to read some texts. In conclusion I would say that English is very difficult for me in general. Obviously all these difficulties can be overcome with practice, I believe that practice is the basis for learning a new language. Trying to return a habit more, speaking English is a very good way to learn it, use it more frequently, make it part of my.

Currently in my daily life I try to practice English as much as I can, sometimes with my sister or with friends, it is very fun. In addition, on the part of the University I have an English course that has helped me to learn many things, although teaching methodologies can always be better, I believe that until now its function has been well accomplished. In this course we have the task of writing a weekly blog on any subject, from hobbies to studies, this variety of topics makes it a very fun task. Also, I think this activity has helped me a lot to improve my writing in English.

Well, as you may notice for me English is a great challenge, but at the end of the day it is satisfactory when I realize the things I have learned.

Changes In My Study Programme

Since I was little I've always dreamed of going to study at the university, always dreamed of reaching the university campus, where everything was different from the school, where everyone was there for the sole interest of learning new things, where there were giant buildings, huge rooms for more than 100 people, etc.   

Today with my 20 years old, currently studying chemistry and pharmacy at the University of Chile, I realize that things are not as I imagined them (well I guess not everything is perfect). Both my faculty and my career need urgent changes, changes that can’t be made to wait. My career, chemistry and pharmacy had a recent curricular innovation, in which many courses were removed and added, until that point everything is fine, the problem is that many of these courses have been implemented badly. I put the case of a course I had the previous semester, called research for pharmaceutical sciences where somehow it was to encourage the scientific interest of students, but this was not done in a pleasant way, they filled us with jobs (which were not at all pleasant) whose dynamics did not allow you to learn anything, I also remember that they made us read English papers, which was not good at first, not all students had the same level of English, so those of us who knew less were it made this task very difficult for us. This is one of the many examples of the changes that must be made to the current curriculum of my career.   

Now speaking at the faculty level, it lacks green areas, has very few and those that have are in poor condition. The lack of places that protect students on rainy days is also present, another important issue is the acoustics of the rooms, which is very bad.

So I could continue for a long time more enumerating things that should be changed, despite this I feel extremely proud of belonging to a University like this and I’m 100% sure that when I finished my career I will be grateful for everything I have learned in this place .

My summer holidays

The academic year has been very hard, at least for me. Sleeping little, leaving friends, family and many of my hobbies are some of the sacrifices I had to make to get good grades, which is why there is nothing else I want at this time than the summer vacation.



For this summer vacation I plan to take my backpack, some money and go with my girlfriend to travel south, we are still not clear the places we will visit, but the trip will be independent of everything. we have some ideas of where we would like to go as, visit the towers of the paine, the island of chiloe and its churches, nature reserves, forests, among others. Mainly we would like to stay in places where we can camp to live a closer experience with nature.

After returning from this trip, I would like to go to the beach with my friends, I have a friend who has a house on the beach, so we could go and stay a few days there. All these plans would be contemplated for December and January, since during February I want to dedicate myself to rest and recuperate all the possible energies to have a good return to class.

Once at home and resting, I would also like to read books, watch many series and play video games, since all this I could not do during the academic year.

Drugs

University life is subject to much stress. Exams, papers, dissertations, reports and a long list of things are the causes of this stress. For this reason it is that one as a student is forced to resort to certain chemical substances to facilitate the task or more to facilitate it, in order to make more bearable the stress that entails studying at the university. 

In my case I usually consume a lot of coffee in order to be active and stay awake at night when I have to study until very late. I also sometimes use it in the mornings so that I can start my day in a good way and be as attentive as possible in the classes. In the moments of relaxation I usually drink alcohol with my university friends, as a way to de-stress after all the tests and jobs. I should also say that I have occasionally used cannabis looking for the same relaxation effect as this. When I probe marijuana or cannabis, it produced a relaxation effect and a sense of well-being, that the truth was what I was looking for, it also produces an evident state of saddles.

I would say my experience with marijuana was good, have a nice time. Also my experience with alcohol has been good, as long as you do not abuse him, he is a good companion during the holidays. Regarding the benefits of drugs the truth the ignore but speaking of ignorance I do not think they have many. With the exception of medicinal uses, since recreational use is only for the purpose of having fun and trying out new sensations. 

The truth is I do not know anyone who is a drug addict as such, but I do know people who often abuse drugs like alcohol (although it's something we all do from time to time). From my knowledge I know that the effects of abstinence occur when the individual ceases to consume the drug in question, which produces a feeling of vulnerability and widespread discomfort in the body. Drugs in society are a latent issue that the truth is very difficult to draw a conclusion on this subject, personally I believe that each one is responsible for what consumes and therefore one must be careful when trying new substances.

My post graduate studies

Hi, guys, how are you? I hope so, today I'm going to talk about the postgraduate courses that I would like to take in the future. I am currently studying pharmacy at the Faculty of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Chile. 

I love my career since I love chemical and biological sciences, I also like laboratory work and is part of the health area, which is why I would like to do a post-graduate degree in pharmacology. Pharmacology is a fundamental science, which is responsible for studying the interaction of drugs (specifically their molecules with the organism). This seems to me very interesting, so much to study it in the not too distant future, I hope ... In this post-graduate course I would like to study things like the interaction of the body with the different molecules, what makes certain drugs so special, I would like to have some course where they instruct me on the creation of new drugs or molecules to treat diseases, all this seems incredible. This is a topic that I would like to study if or if in the future after finishing my career, if possible I would like to study it in some foreign university, since these are much more advanced in science than the Chilean universities. I would like to study the whole course in the foreigner, in person (obviously) and one finished this, I would return to Chile to apply my new knowledge and be able to give my contribution to the scientific community and the community in general. My future work.

Since I was little I always knew that I wanted to do something important, something that could help people. I remember when I saw the television programs where people appeared with important jobs that helped in some way in society. Until that moment I never knew clearly what I wanted to work with, I had my ideas like every child, I wanted to be a firefighter, detective, doctor, lawyer, etc.

Now with 20 years, although my tastes have changed, I still want to work on something that can help people, and over time I developed an incredible curiosity for the unknown, it is for all this I would like to work investigating, but not any type of research, but in something that can somehow help people.

 I would like to work in a laboratory where new treatments or ways of curing diseases are investigated, the very idea of ​​thinking about a job like this motivates me every morning to finish my studies sooner. Also, if I dedicated myself to the research I would be obliged to travel abroad constantly, which I would like quite a bit.

 I am thinking of taking a major in pharmacology or pharmaceutical technology as they could be very useful to work on the development of new drugs or treatments for diseases.  I would also like to work on these topics.

Sports

If I had to choose my favorite hobby, I would have to say that they are sports in general. Since I was a child I have always liked sports, of all kinds. I can remember when I watched sports on TV in my childhood with my parents every weekend. 

Sports are very enjoyable, practiced anywhere, even at home, you do not need to go to the gym or sports center. You just need the desire to play sports and if you can do it with a friend is better, there is nothing like running or doing a routine with a friend.

The sports are very important for me because it helps me to cope with the stress of the university, it also distracts me from day to day. I try to practice all weeks and always that I can, I practice sports since I was 3 years old (I learned to swim at the 3 year old). Currently among others I like play football, basketball, swim, dance, table tennis, also I like to do resistance routines.  I always like to learn new sports, in the future I would like to learn Mountain Climbing or trekking. 

There is only one sport that would not practice and is the hobby horsing, I find it really ridiculous, in my opinion should not be a sport.

I would recommend to all my readers that they try to practice sport frequently is something really rewarding. 

The renal system

The human body is a perfect machine that has mechanisms of answer for all type of stimulus. Exist systems in charge of specific function, but all the systems the most I feel that amazing is the renal system. 

The renal system, also known as the urinary system, is a set of organs whose principal function is to eliminate wastes from the body, regulate blood volume and blood pressure, control levels of electrolytes and metabolites, and regulate blood pH. They components are kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra.  The renal system is located a long trunk and abdomen, the human body normally has two paired kidneys located one on the left and one on the right in lumbar area. The urinary system is really most big that other systems as respiratory, etc. 

Exist many diseases associated urinary system, but the most important are urinary incontinence, diabetes, hypertension, renal calculus, Urethritis, etc. All of diseases affect the normal function of excretion of the system, even affect the normal function others system as circulatory nervous and endocrine. You can help the system urinary eating healthy and going to the doctor periodically. 

The best concert

I´m a person that likes rock and metal type of music, I really love this type of music, I hear it everywhere, when I go on the subway, bus, even in my house. For this reason in my life I went to so many concerts of rock and metal music, but the concert that I remember most is PEAR JAM Latin America tour 2015.

 

Pearl Jam is an American rock band formed in Seattle, in 1990. Their members are Eddie Vedder (lead vocals, rhythm guitar); Mike McCready (lead guitar, backing vocals); Stone Gossard (rhythm/lead guitar, backing vocals); Jeff Ament (bass, backing vocals); Matt Cameron (drums, percussion, backing vocals). 

This concert was in national stadium located in the center of Santiago, in November 4, 2015. I remember the concert like it was yesterday, the band played for 2 hours straight. The atmosphere was very comfortable, the people was cool, really was good experience.

I felt very well during the concert, one experience that I will never forget. The moment that I remember the most was Eddi Vedder singing my favorite song: BLACK. 

The country of my dreams

Hi my friend, today I will tell you about a place very far from here called Australia, I hope not being bothering you… 

Australia is the most attractive country in the world for me. This country is very appealing because they have a wonderful biodiversity and I really love the nature, for this reason Australia is perfect for me. Also this country has great amount of culture in their cities. 

Australia is a country located in the Australian continent that includes the island of Tasmania and numerous smaller islands. It has one of the most diverse flora and fauna of the world, there you can find animals that no other part of the world exist, such as the platypus, Kangaroos and koalas. In this country people speak in English, obviously with the corresponding accent. 

I would visit the city of Sydney, because of the architecture, in this place is the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House all included in the Sydney Harbour. Also I would visit the Melbourne because it seems to me a wonderful city, with many tourist places to visit as Melbourne City Centre, Flinders Street Station, Shrine of Remembrance, Federation Square, Melbourne Cricket Ground, Royal Exhibition Building.

In my opinion Australia is a beautiful country where I would like to live in the distant future, when I finish university and I have a family. I really feel that I would be very happy if I live there...

My BLOGGING EXPERIENCE

The experience of writing blogs is totally new to me, never in my life had I devoted part of my time to writing about different things and my personal tastes, not even think about making them public on a web page. So the experience of writing a blog was something new for me, funny, sometimes boring because of the difficulty I have to express myself, adding that I do not handle English well, other times it was an escape in which you could write what you think , Even if it were not true, is certainly a different experience that must be lived.

My writing skills in English, I think they have improved a lot thanks to write weekly blogs, at first I could not even write a sentence without needing help, now at least I can write quietly and I can consult dictionaries less frequently or other means.

WINTER HOLIDAYS.

The truth is that I never make plans in advance for my holidays, even now I'm not sure what I'm going to do for this winter holidays, but if anything I'm sure, is that I'm going to spend with my girlfriend. 

The university is very difficult, it requires a lot of time, many hours of study, many hours in classes, many hours of travel, at least in my case. For all this and more, I can not stay as long as I would like with my girlfriend. So the first thing that comes to mind when I think about this winter holidays is to be with her and everywhere we go together.

The first thing we will do when we are on a winter vacation, is to see all the movies, series and anime that we could not see during the semester, while we do this we will eat a lot of things, like sushi, pizza, donas, etc. Also, we will take a stroll to all the places that were left pending of the summer vacations, we will go to San Cristobal Hill, to museums of centre Santiago, art exhibitions, to the cinema and if everything goes well, we will go a few days to the beach.

Lab.

To say what my favorite subject is really difficult for me, of all the subjects that I have had this semester there is only one that I dislike (statistic), but the rest I find all very interesting, they all have something that I like, however , If he had to choose an elective '' the general chemistry lab ''. Why? Simply because I love the stress that lab work brings you, despite how exhausting it may become, it's something I love. It's something wonderful when things start to work out, when you understand the processes, chemical reactions that are happening, it becomes something really fun.

It is a really difficult subject, at least for me, during this semester it meant a great challenge, I had to devote many hours of study. My first notes were very low, but with determination I went up by degrees.

 

This is a course that deals with contents of general chemistry 1 and 2, in a nutshell is the practical part of these two courses, where they get approved the knowledge of these two subjects. This is done through practical work where you have to apply the knowledge and check theories raised. One of my favorite practices was the realization of the pH curves.

This time I will talk about a website that is very useful in the development of my career, it is very easy to access, it is free, it has a friendly interface. In short it does not have many requirements to be used, you must only have an associated account and have the desire to inform you about the scientific happening, I'm talking about ScienceDirect.

In this page you can search documents of any kind, Documents of any type, be it papers, journals, review, books, articles, etc. On any scientific topic that interests you, in my case on any topic related to studies related to drugs and new treatments for diseases. The search can be done in many ways, either by the title of the article, keywords, journals related to the topic, the area of ​​study, articles most visited or more recent, by dates, in other words you can search for scientific documents of the Way that will suit you.

I like this website because it is very easy to use and access for me, but of course not everything is perfect, because to be able to download certain articles you must pay a certain amount of money, but there are few in which this happens.

Generally used it frequently, for university jobs or just to look for something to read related to the sciences.

HOBBIES.

Throughout my life I have had many hobbies, but undoubtedly the one I have dedicated the most time this year is to chess. I love to play chess because it is the best strategy game of the world, it is very easy to learn to play, anyone can learn the rules and take the chessboard, the rest is just practicing a lot. It is also a very fun game, you can be winning the game but it is enough to make only one mistake or your opponent makes a good play and you can end up losing, that is why it requires a lot of concentration and many hours of practice. At least I practice at least 1 time a day, if I have the opportunity to play more time I do, but with the university is very complicated, it is also difficult to find who to play because not everyone knows how to play or is interested, Is that I often turn to internet pages to find opponents more easily.

Since I can remember I was never interested in chess, I always found it a boring and meaningless game, but it was one day in my school that I saw playing my classmates that began to attract attention, this happened more or less when I was in third medium. They were very focused on ending their opponent, until one managed to defeat the other and invited me to play, I accept and from there it began to be one of my favorite pastimes, however I spend some time to leave because I I was bored, but when I entered the university I started to play again in the chess game, it was there that I got back to the board.

Chess is a game played between two opponents on opposite sides of a board containing 64 squares of alternating colors. Each player has 16 pieces: 1 king, 1 queen, 2 rooks, 2 bishops, 2 knights, and 8 pawns.

My best game of chess was with my girlfriend one night at my house, where we stayed for about 2 hours playing.

LION.

Choosing a photograph that I like is a difficult task, There are many options to choose from. But always I liked them animals, especially the lions. Because lions are kings of all animals, they are the most beautiful animals in the world, majestic and magnificent. In addition I am of the soccer equipment of the University of Chile that has like symbol a lion. Searching the internet I found a photograph of a lion that caught my attention: 

This photo shows a magnificent animal, the king of the world, with his mane of beautiful color, his eyes wide-eyed penetrating and large black nose, was taken by a professional photographer of national geographic Vincent J. Must. The African lion is the only large cat that lives in large family groups. 200 years ago, there were more than one million lions on Earth, but today, if we add Asian and African lions, we do not exceed 30,000.

My favorite band

My favorite type of music is metal, I really love metal. For me the metal is the best type of music, it have rhythm, power, energy, melody, of everything. Simply is perfect.

When I was 13 years old I started listening to metal music. The history of how I started listening to metal is some funny. My dad is the person most serious of the world and very grumpy, he hate loud sounds, But one day when we were traveling south, I was sleeping, so I woke up with a loud noise, at that moment I saw my dad singing and moving his hands to rhythm of the music. It was since that moment that I could not stop listening to metal. He was listening to metallica, his favorite band (until that moment I did not know this), after this metallica become my favorite band.

Metallica is my favorite metal band is a great band, composed by James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo. I love all his albums but my favorites are Kill 'Em All (1983) and the black album (1991). I have seen them live 2 times and they have been the best experience of my life.

Me and technology

It’s easy for me to write about of my favorite technology, since I have memory I use the technology in my life, I can´t remember a moment in my life when I did not use the technology.

I like everything technologies, phones, TV, all types video games, but I have always preferred computers. For me is the technology more complete, is perfect, especially the laptops, since they are more comfortable to carry.

My first computer was at 10 years old, a windows 98, was very old but loved it, only used to play a couple of games, including Pac-Man and occasionally to surf the net. This computer is part of my most precious memories.

I currently have a laptop, the best computer. I love my laptop, it's my most treasured treasure, I use it for everything, it's the truth and I always tell the truth. I use it to play video games online, to study, to do university jobs.

My life would not be complete without computers. 

My Career

Hi everyone, today I'm going to tell you why did I choose my career.
Currently I study chemistry and pharmacy, but it was never my intention to end up here. Actually when I was child, I really like adventures and animal life, I imagined go on travel to different countries to discuvered dinosaur and rest animals, so my first dream was be an archeologist.
When I grew up, I really like science stuff, my favorite subject on school was chemistry and biology, so I have two options for my career, first chemistry and pharmacy and then biochemistry.
I decided go for chemistry and pharmacy because of work field and also I'm more interested in the investigation of medical science, so pharmacy was perfect for me.

It´s not easy to tell who I am , but I will to try.

My name is Axel, I´m 20 years old, I was born in Santiago, Chile in 1996

I live in San Bernardo district with my mother, my younger sister, my grandmother and my mother’s boyfriend.

Currently I study chemistry and pharmacy at faculty of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of Chile located in Independencia district. My favorite class is chemistry, but it’s challenging.

I like practicing sports like basketball, ping pong, running and chess. I also like reading book of science fiction, philosopy and manga. My favorite book is “Fundacion” of Isaac Asimov, it’s really fits me the whole collection of Fundacion’s book.
